Step into the portal and transport yourself to an ancient world where witches and warlocks decide the fate of metal at the 33rd Wacken Open Air. Setting the scene with an amazing storyline between a witch and a warlock with two different ideas what metal stands for. While the witch believes metal is rebellious and stands for uprising against the ruling order, the warlock sees metal as an art form of magic. This year’s lineup might be the most diverse yet as metal from all genres will set foot upon the holy ground.
As the previous years, Wacken always has a lot of special shows and notable newcomers. A few of these newcomers are Cherie Curie (formerly of The Runaways), folk punk rock band Flogging Molly, Reggae punk band Jaya The Cat, glam rockers The Darkness, legendary KISS member Gene Simmons with his new band and the ballroom blitz sound of The Sweet. There are many more debuts coming this year. Some of the special shows include Mayhem’s 40th anniversary, Ghaal’s black metal band Trelldom’s second live show ever (the first one being 1 day earlier at Beyond the Gates in Norway). Messiah’s 40th anniversary, Sick of it All with a special 30th album anniversary show, and Watain’s 25th anniversary show.
We can’t forget some bands that have played Wacken more than once but are still amazing to see live and the crowd always brings out the best at these shows. Blind Guardian will make the entire holy ground sing with them, Avantasia’s metal opera with lots of different vocalists will make the crowd lost in space and German rockers Scorpions will also bring their winds of change to Wacken.
Wacken Open Air will be from July 31 – August 3 in Wacken, Germany.
Tickets are already sold out but there’s always a way to get tickets from their own marketplacewhere fans who can’t go anymore will put their tickets for sale. These tickets will be put in your name, and you will be able to enjoy this amazing festival.
