What better start of the new year than exploring and discovering new music, bands and genres.
This band released a dual single already in October 2025 but hey what can I say. Better late than never.
Hidden Since The Foundation Of The World is an Amsterdam based neo-psychedelic doom / sludge metal band. Well in all fairness I don’t think I have ever listened to these two genres. But the fun part of writing is discovering and listening to new music.
While I’m writing this review, a ”Bad Winter” is really happening, like it’s bloody cold at the moment and my village is covered in snow. So this song fits the setting. ”Bad Winter” starts with a good eerie like sound. The voice of Blev Lavoux is very deep and fits perfectly the setting of series like Wednesday or Stranger Things. It reminds me a bit of Raven van Dorst from Dool. I like it when during the verses Lavoux‘ voice is kind of monotone and during the chorus it switches between the high notes and the low notes. The more I listen to the song the more it grows on me.
What I really like about metal music and bands, is that they sometimes use instruments, who might have a boring reputation. When I was still in highschool a friend of mine played the violin and was immediately labeled as a nerd. There is this thing, that playing classical instruments is boring or nerdy. Well Hidden Since The Foundation Of The World changes the imagine by using the electrical violin played by Lavoux. During the opening of ”Man of Stated Age” we hear this mighty instrument together with the drum work by Tina Harris, I really love it when women play the drums btw. When Lavoux starts singing again we hear the beautiful high tones the voice can reach together with some backing vocals by Joel Bordeaux, the guitarist and electronics member of the band. The bass played by Ivar van der Heijden sets the tone of this song more and more. It’s a different song compared to ”Bad Winter”. This one is a bit more heavier and even has some grunting in it.
Overall I think these two songs give a good idea or a first impression by how multitalented this group is and I expect some good things from them in the future.
