Better late than never is a pretty good way to sum up the concert of Enemy Inside. Performing originally on the 21st of March, but due to sickness, it was postponed to the 12th of April. Last Saturday it was finally for Enemy Inside to take the stage in Utrecht, de Helling.
Maybe because of the postponement, the venue was unfortunately far from sold out. But that didn’t stop the crowd from arriving on time and making it a night to remember.
Opener of the show was the German pop-punk, emo band Letters Sent Home. Formed during school in 2015, the young looking band knows how to perform and work the crowd.
Being their first time in the Netherlands for a show didn’t stop the band from delivering a good set. It was lovely to even hear the singer singing and not even one of the instruments was louder than the other. It was all in good sync.
The singer Emily Paschke made contact with the audience on multiple occasions. Being a bit shy in the beginning and having a bit of an out of breath voice, during the set she got comfortable with the crowd and they even played a demo for the crowd. Which already sounded fantastic. Fun fact that on the day of the Utrecht performance, it has been a year since their debut album Forever Undone was released. This band definitely knows how to perform and were a great opener playing a total of 13 songs. It is always hard being an opener for another band, but Letters Sent Home really did an amazing job.
After a quick change of instruments and some decor changing. It was time for Enemy Inside. Starting with a tape with some ”safety instructions” the band entered the stage. Blowing us away with “Venom”, switching to “Should Have Known Better” which made the crowd go wild, to Nastassja Giulia‘s favorite “Sayonara”. Being called the Venom tour, most of the songs were from the new album but the crowd knew every piece of it. But the older ones like “Angel’s Suicide” and “Black Butterfly” were welcome as well by the crowd. The collaboration songs were played during this tour and shows us that the band doesn’t need more than their own talent.
Even the song “Innocent” which is a bonus on the deluxe version of the album was sung by the crowd. Being it the final performance of the Venom Tour Giulia asked the crowd several times to really make it a night to remember. The band performs with a high energy and song after song has been played having no time for little breaks or chit chat’s. Sadly the evening flew by and so did the Venom Tour. After the final riffs of “Phoenix” flew away, Letters Sent Home came back on stage with ice cream for the band and Paschke took the microphone to thank the band for the tour and the opportunity.
Needless to say that unfortunately due to sickness, the show had to be postponed, which might have been the reason for a not crowded venue. But they really did their best to make up with us, the fans for that little misfortunate. As I said in the beginning, better late than ever. And this band definitely deserves a sold out venue the next time they come to the Netherlands.
