Månegarm Releasefest “Nattväsen”

Going to a concert in Sweden was a whole new experience for us. After having someproblems with entering, we finally got in. First thing to notice was the very weird set up of the venue. The stage was set up along the wall instead of being set up at the far wall. This way the place in front of the stage was very wide and not very long. After having a beer at the bar (which was conveniently placed on the wall opposite to the stage), it was time for the first band of this evening, Skyforger. After they got themselves on stage (they first had to find a way through the audience, because there was no real backstage) they started off. I was shocked by the bad sound of the venue. Though the sound was terrible, Skyforger tried to make the best of it, and even I got excited (I’m not a big Skyforger fan). They gave an energetic performance, that got the entire crowd excited. A great band to start this evening with.

After a break it was time for Thyrfing to start playing. Again the sound was terrible. But even though the sound was bad, this actually was the first time ever that I could hear the keyboards during a live performance. I have to say, that it’s a lot better when the keys are up!
It’s a shame that the singer still didn’t do the clear singing, but besides that it was a nice show, though not the best I’ve seen from Thyrfing.

Last band of the evening, and the band that it’s all about: Månegarm. This gig was to celebrate the release of their new cd. The fans were already able to buy it at this gig, even though it wasn’t officially released yet. I actually expected them to play their entire new cd at this gig, but they didn’t. They played some new songs, as well as some familiar songs. It was obvious that most people in the venue came to this gig for Månegarm, since the crowd went totally crazy.
In spite of the bad sound the bands created a great party and we had a great time. Swedish people are great party people!
