Caedium is the second album by the German band Enemy Of The Sun. The band is founded in 2006 by Waldemar Sorychta who is mainly known of the band Grip Inc. He completed the band with singer Jules Näveri (Misery Inc., Burning Empire), bassplayer Alla Fedynitch (Disillusion, Leaves Eyes, Pain, Atrocity) and Daniel Zeman on drums. The music of Enemy Of The Sun is best described as progressive thrash metal. The first album ‘Shadows’ from 2007 was received well and was album of the month in the Rock Hard magazine. They also performed after the release on festivals like Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Rock Hard Festival and With Full Force. So the future for the band looked good.

The album starts with a intro that begins with a guitar that repeat it selves a lot and it sound very annoying. After that is over the intro burst out in a nice instrumental part. After the intro the song Another End Of The Rainbow burst out of the speakers and let you hear that typical sound of Enemy Of The Sun that you also could hear so well on the first album. It is a pretty fast song with awesome guitar work and alternated singing with grunts and clean vocals. These typical songs can also be heard later on the album in songs as ‘Paradigm’ and ‘I Am One’. That last song has a Spanish acoustic guitar in the song what gives it a nice touch to the song. Besides that it is a very powerful song. ‘Chasing The Dragon’ have some really nice twists in the song were also the technical part of the music of Enemy Of The Sun comes to the front. It’s a very catchy song and easy to sing along. Also ‘Stolen Sky’ and ‘Sky Shooting Stars’ are catchy songs with high sing along choruses. ‘Sky Shooting Stars’ begins with a almost epic intro that turns into a pretty fast song. Also the song ‘Castaways In The N.W.O.’ has some very catchy parts as multiple times the word ‘Rise’ is grunted during the song that for the rest only is sung with clean vocals. In the song ‘Ticket’ the bass guitar is good to listen to. I know Alls is a great bass player and she has proven that in many other bands. So it’s nice to listen to her bass work on this album. There are also some quieter songs on the album like ‘Try Out’ That begins almost like a ballad and turns into a a more heavier part and turns back to the ballad part. ‘The Golden Horizon’ is also a quieter song. But here is more variation between the quit and heavy parts. There are also some great failures on the album. The instrumental parts in ‘The Power Of Mankind’ are oke but the grunts and the clean vocals are terrible to listen to. The clean vocals are hurting your ears, it sounds so forced. Also ‘Aimless’ is a terrible song with almost constant clapping during the song and for a moment it stops but than immediately the clapping returns and are working on your nerves. The album ends with a small instrumental outro that have some kind of epic begin. It sounds oke.

This second album is a logic musical step by the band. The album have some really great songs but also some great failures like the first album. So for the next time I hope they work on that and that they may bring out a killer album next time.
