De Kelder, Amersfoort.

This evening, most of the Metal Exposure crew attended the concert of Slechtvalk, Elexorien and Myrkvar in Amersfoort. After a long journey and asking directions, we finally arrived at the Kelder, the building actually reminded us a lot of a shipping container.

Inside the shipping container, the first band; Myrkvar started to play. Myrkvar is a Dutch band (like all the other bands this evening), who have played several gigs with well known bands in the folk-metal genre, for example Thyrfing and Heidevolk. The music Myrkvar plays is a mix between folk and black metal. A pity for Myrkvar that the soundquality inside the Kelder was quite crappy, because the music the band plays is okay. The violin in the band gives something extra to the music, so that it doesn’t make them folk/black metalband number: 187.637 (and still counting).
Songs they played were: ‘Trollisfarne’ and ‘Wolfstijd’ and at the end of their show they asked the audience for a called for a dance during the song ‘Trollen met de prei’. The melody from this song comes from a (terrible) commercial, and for now you can call ‘Trollen met de prei’, Myrkvar’s own Trollhammaren. Although the sound wasn’t that good, we have to say that Myrkvar has a convincing stage performance and did a good job with warming up the crowd.
Second band playing was Elexorien. We’ll try to stay objective on this band, but it’s kind of hard since they are friends of ours. So first thing to notice of course was their new singer, Lotte. This was Lotte her second gig ever and you could see that she was a bit nervous at the start. During the show she got loose and proved herself the right new front woman of Elexorien. Besides this, the voice of Lotte is awesome. Though we almost couldn’t hear her in the first two songs because of some sound problems it got a lot better during the rest of the show. Elexorien gave away a nice and funny show and played some new songs for us that they are going to record this summer. Of course all the famous old songs like Dryads and Trolls had to be played to. Nice show!
Last band, and the band where it was all about was Slechtvalk. This show was the releaseparty of their new cd ‘A Forlorn Throne’. Being known as a Christian band I didn’t really know what to expect about this, but I have to confess I wasn’t really positive. My opinion changed a bit during the show, cause Slechtvalk knows how to make music.
Though they still in fact dó play some Christian stuff and name it black metal… something goes wrong here. Being quite surprised about the fact that the music actually was pretty much ok, I was surprised about the next fact; namely that they were dressed up as warriors. Also something I wouldn’t expect. But it did fit the music and it made me think of a combination between Thronar and Amon Amarth (yes, that’s positive). At the end I have to say that, even though also Slechtvalk had the sound problems, it was a nice show. Though I still do not agree with Christian black metal (if it even does exist…) I can’t deny that this band plays pretty good music live.
