After Forever’s (pun intended) break it was silent around Floor Jansen for a while, until a message showed up announcing a new album and a new band. In a few days, you’ll be able to get your hands on that cd, which is called just like the band: ‘ReVamp’. For ReVamp’s debut album Floor produced and recorded the songs with Joost van den Broek and Waldemar Sorychta.

Besides Floor’s own voice, you can hear some guest vocalists on the album. The first song on the album ‘Here’s My Hell’, you can hear grunts of George Oosthoek. ‘Sweet Curse’, contains guest vocals of Russel Alan (Symphony X), one of the reasons why this song is one of the best on the album. Bjorn Strid (Soilwork) opens his mouth and screams some words in the song ‘Disdain’.

In some songs ReVamp sounds thouger then the work you were used too from After Forever, but this album also has slower and softer pieces. One thing I miss a lot in the album are grunts, or even clean male vocals which would be good for the alternation. Floor’s vocals are pretty diverse throughout the album, though she doesn’t use her classical voice a lot, which I think is a pity, because it’s stunning. Sometimes the music reminds you slightly of  After Forever but it is not a coninuation of that band.

As I said before, I – personally- miss the grunts, blastbeats and loud guitars but ‘ReVamp’ is a strong debut album and Floor is doing what she does best: singing her guts out. The album won’t bore you and will be well received in the metalworld, certainly amongst former After Forever and other F (emale)F (ronted) M(really, what do you think?) fans. Think that it’s not your cup of tea? Get a beer and give the album a spin.

Want to check out ReVamp on stage? Look at their myspace or website for more information. On stage, Miss Jansen teams up with Matthias Landes (Dark Fortress) on drums, Jaap Melman (Dreadlock Pussy, Pendejo) on bass, Jord Otto on guitar, Arjan Rijnen (Pendejo) on guitar and Ruben Wijga (Insomnia) on keyboard.
