Denouncement Pyre is a black/death metal band from Australia. I’ve never ever heard of this band before so I’m curious what they will bring me. The band has been around since 2003 and finally recorded their debut album ‘World Cremation’ this year. It will be released on the 23th of july.
‘Black Womb of Magdalene’ is the intro and also the first song. The intro is nothing out of the ordinary. Then the guitars start and the first thing I notice is that the production of this album could have been better, the guitars sound to distorted, a lot of blastbeats (doesn’t have to be a bad thing though) and the vocals sound vague. (Ofcourse you never know whether that’s on purpose or not). The vocals have a quite typical black metal sound.
The song itself is up-tempo, diverse and at the end there is a short, speedy solo.
‘The Flesh of thy Master’ opens with a riff you can hear in almost any metal band, it sounds really familiar. The song is not something special, the riffs are repeated and not very diverse. Again in the end, a short and speedy solo.
‘Purification’ immediately gets your attention: Why? Because the intro is different from the other songs. It starts out with a choir instead of blasbeats and repetative guitar riffs. This is only for a few seconds though. The song is slower then the others and more diverse, I like it. (Again in the end, a short and speedy solo).
‘Coven of the Diabolical Prophecies’ is in the beginning quite similiar to other songs. In the middle of the song it slows down, bit more to my liking. Also suprisingly the song doesn’t end with a short and speedy solo but with strange choir singing. ‘Engulfed Temples’ is the next song on the album and nothing special to tell you about.
‘Salvation, the fading light’ starts slowly. The song sounds good an diverse, it becomes more agressive in the end. Along with ‘A Banner drenched in Blood’, they are nice song to hear.
The last song on the album is ‘Invination of Poison’ sounds catchy and nice at the start, definatly a good way to ‘close’ your album.
World Cremation is a nice debut album, the sound quality could have been better. It contains some nice songs but some also are too repetative for my taste and nothing special either. I advise you to listen to this album if you don’t mind repetative songs and mediocre quality. If you do, just leave it on the shelf for people who can appreciate it.
