Kadavrik had the honour of playing first this evening. I was suprised by the music of these Germans, I expected some viking metal band but actually Kadavrik plays melodic death metal. The music sounded good, nothing special but still worth listening to. That there weren’t a lot of people watching this band didn’t seem to matter to the band. Their stage performance looked good and was enthousiastic. Just like Amon Amarth they probably practiced on synchronous headbanging and some nice jumping moves. Their enthousiasme rubbed off on the crowd that was present, Kadavrik was well received.

The second band playing this evening was Slechtvalk. Slechtvalk is a dutch band who play viking black metal, and where – not suprisingly- slitghly dressed up as vikings. There was a bit more crowd present to watch this band. Also expecting some typical viking metal, I was suprised to hear a lot of black metal, not dissapointing. Their new album ‘A Forlorn Throne’ will be released this month. Honestly I was suprised by how good this band sounded and I am curious about the new album. The sound was good, the performance was nice, let’s hope they have the same luck at their releaseparty later on this month. (Metal Exposure will be there!)

Vreid announced some shows with a special guest. Vreid would play a few Windir songs with Vegard Bakken, the brother of the diseased Terje Valfar Bakken. This shows were:

29th of April: W2, De Bosch, Netherlands
30th of April: Ragnarök festival, Kreuth, Germany (ME was present, check out the review!)
01st of May: Fiesta Pagana,Schmerikon, Switzerland

So in Den Bosch Vreid started with songs from their latest album ‘Milorg’. Two of the songs they played from this album were ‘Milorg’ and ‘Speak, goddamnit’. Songs from other Vreid albums were amongst others ‘Pitch black brigade’, ‘Left to hate’ and ‘I Krig’. Vreid knew how to make the audience move and almost everbody was headbanging or even dancing.
After playing quite a long set of their own songs the band left the stage. A new intro was played and it became clear that now the Windir- part of the show would start. The part that most people were waiting for. A huge guy entered the stage, being ofcourse Vegard. Vegard & Vreid played three Windir songs: personal favorite ‘Journey to the end’ (only half of the song actually), ‘Svartesmeden og Lundamyrstrollet’ and ‘Blodssvik’. It was great to be able to hear a few Windir songs live, even though there were just three. After this short but awesome set of Windir songs the band and Vegard played one more song of Vreid. There was no encore. All the bands played very well this evening, and I was happy to have heard some Windir songs but also to see Vreid again because they are a great live band!
