Beukfeest 7

Mar-3-2010

27-02-2010 Gryphus, Vierlingsbeek

Line Up:
Carach Angren
Onheil
Infestis

Somewhere in a province far and away, there was a festival called Beukfeest. Beukfeest was to have it’s 7th edition! The Metal-Exposure crew travelled a lot of miles to attend to this still small but awesome fest. The line-up of Beukfeest’s 7th edition was as following: Infestis, Onheil and as headliner Carach Angren.
A lot has changed since the last time that I saw Infestis, but change in a good way! Before, when I saw this band at Sodom Open Air – 27-6- 09 (review is here ;) ) the songs they played sounded a lot like Dissection and originality was nowhere to be found.
Looking at Infestis now, you can see that they all wear the same corpsepaint, ritually tear up bibles, and you can also hear that their music has improved. Sounding more original and well. The sound in Gryphus was very good but sometimes but the drums didn’t always sound tight and the solo’s either. But in all, Infestis has improved and played some decent black metal.
The audience seemed not really awake yet, but as the clock ticked and beer was consumed the audience became more active and some heads were banging.

The first song that Onheil played actually reminded me of Children of Bodom. Very suprising because I was under the impression that Onheil was more like Infestis: melodic black metal.
The music that Onheil plays is hard to describe, it is mostly black metal but with and egde of melodeath and it is fast, brutal and dynamic. The audience seemed to love the music, the first moshpits were starting and there were a lot of headbangers. Although there was interaction with the audience, the action on stage was slightly plain.

Carach Angren was the last band to play. This band plays symphonic black metal, their songs are mainly about ghost sightings. The sound was good, the same goes for their stage performance which made the show very atmospheric (after the front lights were turned on during the third song). The audience seemed to love this performance, the crowd was very enthousiastic and headbanging all through the show. Songs from different albums came along Corpse in a Nebulous Creek and Haunting Echoes from the Seventeenth Century from Lammendam. From the new album Death came through a phantom ship: Bloodstains on the captains log and The Sighting is a Portent of Doom. They also played a song from the demo Etheral veiled existence: The ghost of Raynham Hall. Carach Angren was a good to end the 7th edition of Beukfeest. Metal Exposure will see you at again at the a next edition of Beukfeest !

You can see Carach Angren on A Declaration of Hate tour with Dark Funeral and Nefarium.
