The Retaliation Process (TRP) is a new Hamburg (Germany) based band. After its founding in 2008 they now just released their first album called Downfall. The sound on this cd is best described as a metalcoremix between thrash and death metal. The cd has 10 songs on it starting with “Uprising”. This song describes most of the cd having a hard and fast sound that gets you energized. It has some double bassing in it and a groovy bass and guitar line. The drumparts are produced by Andre Kummer. The groovy bass lines are created by Michael Konecny and the guitars are provided by Sascha Maskow and Jury Kowalczyk. The vocals on this song and on the record are comparable to those of bands like Machine Head or Lamb of God. These vocals have a more shouting feature to them than being growls. The growls on this cd are a bit thicker and lower than both other bands though. After a few more songs of the same style (‘Blindfolded’, ‘Four Seasons of self mutilation’, “Bridge end…’) a different song suddenly rips through the cd. It is the song ‘… Prozac’ and it s acoustic. It’s a lovely song and it breaks up the tempo from the previous tracks but it is a bit strange compared to the rest of the album. After this tune the electric guitars get picked up again and they follow the same path as the first four songs. The rest of the tracks are all a bit more the same and keep the energy going.

Conclusion
The cd is a nice debutalbum and contains a high energy metalcore with a thrash/deathmetal sound. The songs themselves are not really that special and have mostly the same style. This makes the album a bit predictable even though there is that strange acoustic song. All in all it’s a decent album which could be enjoyed by a few folks.
