Temnozor

At a secret location in Belgium
The 16th of January, a concert by the Russian Pagan metal band Temnozor took place somewhere in Belgium. Originally the band was booked for a show in Roermond in the Netherlands, but unfortunately the upheavel created by the Antifa made this impossible. To make the journey to the Netherlands at least a bit worthwhile, Temnozor found an alternative show. But because this was further away and also a lot more difficult to acces, your Metal-Eposure crew couldn’t make it there to write you a review. Lucky for you, someone who did make it was willing to write a few words about the gig, and I made you a review of it. So Metal-Expose did not attend this gig, but we have a witness-account. ![]()
First of all, the alternative gig was very ill organised. Not only was the location hard to find because of missing signs, it also took place in a pigstable (litterally) and it was very cold in there. Secondly, until 11 pm it was still a mystery whether Temnozor would play at all. Finally at 1.30 am Temnozor started playing and made the waiting worthwhile. The other bands playing that evening were Project Chaos, Strijdgeest, Blind Justice and Libertin, but for most of the attendants these band weren’t interesting, although the Italian band Blind Justice did get positive feedback.
Eventually, after a long soundcheck, the band that the most people had travelled so far for started. Because of their late arrival and a few problems the stage wasn’t decorated in the usual way, with for example animal skins. But beacuse it is only decoration after all, it didn’t affect the performance. After a few songs the second guitarist left the stage because he was suffering from a nerve-problem in his vinger, but this didn’t influence the sound too much. However, a few of the songs they had planned to play weren’t possible, because for those the second guitar was indispensible. The vocals alternated between artists.
They played a few songs from their new album Haunted Dreamscapes, and also from Folkstorm of the Azure Nights. From Horizons they played (amongst others) White Thunder Roars, which for some reason they did without vocals. Temnozor ended the show with Fatherland and Zamrit Vetra Polevye, and their final song was a Russian cover of a German song. They didn’t play their very first songs Did-Dub-Snop and Maslenitza, probably because of the missing second guitar. In fact, they didn’t play anything at all from Sorcery is Strengthening the Black Glory of Rus’.
Our source tells us that the show by Temnozor was defintely worth the long drive, the cold and the mud. After all, it was their first and maybe only show in ths part of the world. The music is great and they really manage to bring it on stage. As for Temnozor themselves, they were a little disappointed by the location, but they made the best of it anyway, which is admirable! Financially it was a disaster for them, but luckily they sold all the merchandise in about half an hour.
Hopefully, they’ll hold no grudges and agree to come back to play for more fans and in a decent venue, and then of course, Metal-Exposure will be there!
By the way: If you couldn’t be there, of their show in Moskow Temnozor has released a Live DVD: Sumerki Na Pokhoronakh Zimy.
