Five years I’ve waited and finally I was going to see Hypocrisy live!
After crossing the country we arrived at Dynamo in Eindhoven. A lot of metalman and not so much metalwomen gathered here. Getting inside the venue I have to say I was suprised that Hypocrisy would play on such a small stage. But to continue to the order of the day, the first band playing was Survivors Zero. Hatesphere cancelled the tour so there was only one support act.
Survivors Zero is a Finnish death metal band. I didn’t see a lot of them because we were slightly late. Checking out this band I noticed on familiar face: Tapio Wilska, who once played in Finntroll.
The drummer liked playing hide and seek, he was hidden on the left side of the stage. I only saw two songs of this band but I liked the music very much, I think Survivors Zero is definatly a band you should check out! Survivors Zero also played a cover from Kreator: people of the lie. So after not so long waiting, it was time for tadadadadaaa: .. Hypocrisy!
They opened with ‘Valley of the damned’ from their new album ‘A taste of extreme divinty’. ‘Valley of the damned’ was a good way to open show: fast, hard and catchy, three keys words that also describe the evening. The stage was decorated with a back drop with album art and alienesque lights blinded the crowd from time to time. Besides Valley of the damned they played ‘Hang him high’ from the new album. The sound was okey, could have been better but it wasn’t that noticable.
Peter Tägtgren seemed slightly confused by all the touring thinking it was already saturday on a friday evening. The setlist was varied with songs from different albums: Eraser, Fire in the sky, Let the knife do the talking (see setlist below). The encore existed out of two songs: Warpath and the Final chapter. So, was this worth five years of waiting? Yes ofcourse! I loved the show, sound was okay, the setlist was nice and there was beer. What more can we ask for?
