After a break of several years Troll has decided to release a new album. This follow up of the album “Universal” (2001) is called Neo Satanic Supremacy and is the 5th release of this black metal group formed around Nagash (Ex Dimmu Borgir, The Kovenant). Nagash (vocals and guitars) has enveloped himself with a few fellow black metal artists namely Ygg (drums), Exilis (keyboards), Vold (bass and vocals) and Tlaloc (guitars and vocals).
The album itself can be called symphonic black metal and contains a lot of riffs, blast beats and a lot of keys. The songs are well written and as such are entertaining. The quality of the recordings are good and the mixing is well done.
Best songs on the album are “Burn the Witch” and “Hvor Taken Ligger Sa Trist Og Gra”. These two songs bring a beat that tends to let your head bob up and down. Both have great vocals and have a more of and edge than the other songs on this album.
That being said Troll does have a way of creating great blast beats as heard on the songs “Neo Satanic Supremacy” and “Age of Satan”. Their sound then has a fullness to it, that I find compelling.
There is only one problem with the album and that is ingenuity. The songs are good but give me the feeling I have heard them before.

Conclusion:
The sound of the album isn’t new and you will find none to few progressive sounds. But if you like symphonic black metal you will not be disappointed by this album. It has a good production value and a few really good songs.
By the way if you plan to see them live this might be your lucky year. They are planning a tour round this album. Which is a new thing for Troll as they did their first live performance last year. It was their first show since the starting of the band in 1992.
