Jesus Crost Interview

I learned about Jesus Cröst it’s existence when they released their latest album TOT. I was hooked immediatly and I still think they are one of the best grind bands Holland has to offer. They are releasing a new cd in March so i thought it would be a good idea to ask some questions to 10 and 13.
First of all could you introduce Jesus Cröst to people who haven’t heard of you guys yet?
Tell us about your history and evolution!
Jesus Cröst is a grindcore band from Rotterdam, Holland. Playing fast since 1996 and still with the same members that we started with. 10 on drums and 13 on guitars and vocals.
We started more as a crustcore band in the vein of ENT and Doom, but in the years we evoluated more into a grindcore/fastcore/powerviolence band.
Now a days people compare us with Yacopsae, old-Napalm Death.
In 2009 we toured Europe with Yacopsae. It was a good musical match.
Did your previous record TOT open a lot of doors for you guys and in which countries are you guys most popular, you got a lot of good reviews and it made my yearlist:)?
TOT really opened a lot of doors. After the TOT release we toured with FUBAR, changed label and played many great shows on big fest. We become more a big player in the Dutch grindcore scene and we try to get more bigger in other countries.
Lot’s of people liked us in Eastern Europe, but that’s maybe because we toured Eastern Europe 3 times and played the Obscene Extreme Festival in 2008.
It’s great to see what a release can do. Now we play bigger venues, more people know who we are and we got many more offers to play. Also the quality of the shows are improving.

Tell us something about the studio process of the new album! The Where/Who/When?
It took a lot of time to write all the 23 new songs. We completely focussed on the new CD and stopped doing shows end of 2009 to get the result we were looking for.
In november we headed for the studio in Oldenburg, Germany. The same studio where we recorded the TOT album in 2007.
I took us 4 days to record all our new songs. The week after it got mixed and mastered. Now it’s on it’s way to our label Bones Brigade.
5 March is the release date of the new CD. Club WATT in our hometown is the location.
We’re very happy with the result.

How did you come in contact with Phobia to do a split with?
To get in contact with Phobia was quite easy; They contacted us. Not for a split EP, but they wanted to print JC shirts for Berzerkerwear. Shane (Phobia) and Travis run the Berzerkerwear company.
They made us some shirts. In coorparation with our label we tried to find a cool band who was willing to do a split EP with us.
I contacted Shane. We got a yes from Phobia. The plan is to release the EP end of 2010.
Where do you guys get inspired by?
Lot’s of bands inspired us. It won’t be fair if we would say they didn’t.
Most of our lyrics are inspired by life in general. The’re not political, but more personal lyrics.
Bands we got inspired by for the new release… eehhm.
Yeah a lot. Ulcerrhoea, Yacopsae, PLF, Mesrine and Magrudergrind are the biggest musical influences.
And also the Extreme Noise Terror album ‘Being and nothing’ inspired us for the guitarsound.
What are your future plans?
We have got a lot of plans for 2010, some cool shows are planned.
We’ll play Maryland Deathfest end of may with great other bands. Big bands. We’re small compared to these giants.
But fuck.. We’re on the bill. Before the fest we play NYC as well.
A UK tour in March is confirmed. Play fast or don’t festival in Czech-Republic is on, just like a weekend in Kiev in may.
We hope to do some cool shows in Holland and hope the new CD will do the work.
We will do a interview in Aardschok this month, a metal magazine from Holland.
The plan is to become a more important player in the grindscene in 2010.
Relapse here we come.. haha!
Any bands we should check out?
Ofcourse!
